The artist placed a one cubic meter of ice, cut into small cubes, into the Bahe River in Beijing, China. The Bahe flows into the Hai River system, then into Bohai Bay, and ultimately the Yellow Sea. The performance is documented through a series of photographs. The work responds to environmental and economic campaigns that present themselves as “protection” while capitalizing on sea-level rise, especially the global fixation on the potential disappearance of the Maldives.
